Landesjugendchor Saar to visit South Africa
Stellenbosch University’s Choral Division is proud to announce a special cooperation with one of the most preeminent youth choirs in Germany: the Landesjugendchor Saar under the baton of Alexander Lauer will visit South Africa from August 15th – 31st performing all over South Africa and being our choir in residence for 4 days.
Cultural exchange is a crucial factor within the process of globalisation. It is essential to our humanity since as human beings we are created for interaction and exchange of ideas, thoughts, feelings and knowledge. Choral Music can facilitate access to large numbers of people and offers possibilities and the chance to connect ideas and form networks across society and across the globe.
One of the most popular and populous possibilities in doing so is choral singing. Choral singing contributes to the welfare of a country in a variety of ways: by shaping individuals generally, by educating them to be critical thinkers and engaged citizens, through the development of intellectual capital and human potential. This may serve as a tool to build cultural identity and a more just society – especially here in South Africa.
Stellenbosch University’s Chamber Choir is looking forward to meeting our guests. Have a safe journey – welcome to South Africa!
