Since 01 April 2013 Martin Berger teaches at the Music Department at the prestigious Stellenbosch University in South Africa. The main campus is located in Stellenbosch, about 40 kilometers east of Cape Town. Some 28,000 students and about 3,000 faculty and staff members study, work and research here.
The University’s history goes back to the founding of the Stellenbosch Gymnasium on 1 Back in March 1866, and to the establishment of the Faculty of Arts in 1881 as Stellenbosch College. In 1887 the college was renamed in “Victoria College and University”. Since 1918 it´s known under the present name Universiteit van Stellenbosch or Stellenbosch University.
The Music Department was established in 1905 and is one of the oldest and foremost music departments in South Africa.
Martin Berger is responsible for re-designing of the Choral Conducting program and Head of the newly established Unit for Early Music.
